Is your child interested in growing his or her leadership potential while working on exciting, creative programs at The Maker Farm?
This program is for children who want to be on the farm all summer, and who enjoy helping out! We are asked by kids each year “when can I be an assistant counselor?” Kids love to be given responsibilities on the farm and in our camps. The younger campers really enjoy the energy the teen counselors bring to our programs.
Trainees MUST attend camp July 10-13. During this week, students will be trained to be assistants in a number of our art and animal camps. Then, they may choose which weeks to come as assistants for the rest of the summer. There is a one-time fee. They may choose 1-6 camps to come to for the rest of the summer. They will be an official assistant, but will also be encouraged to join in on the activities.
Campers who are new to our trainee program can begin our Leadership Training (LT) program. This program puts an emphasis on working in a group, being a positive role model, and successfully assisting our senior instructors in a camp setting. The mission of the LT program is to foster leadership potential and to develop a sense of social and environmental responsibility necessary to become part of The Maker Farm staff.
The Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program is for teens who completed Summer 2017 as a trainee.. Building upon the leadership potential gained as an LT, this program is focused on growing skills in teaching, activity programming and peer mentorship. The purpose of the CIT Program is to instill in our future counselors the values necessary to become a successful member of The Maker Farm summer camp staff. All CITs must previously complete the LT program or have had comparable and verifiable leadership experiences elsewhere. In this way we hope to best prepare our CITs and potential future counselors for their important role at camp.
