We are looking forward to a fun and rewarding Summer 2019 at The Maker Farm! Our Counselor-in-Training program is undergoing a few changes. Last year, we noticed how successful team projects were for this group. In 2019, there will be more team projects in our gardens, with our animals, and with our camps. These will be led by a full-time staff member devoted solely to this program. We also are removing the title of LT. All will be Counselors-in-Training.
We also are now allowing an option for CITs to join camps as campers as we have a few camps geared for older children through age 16 such as Shakespeare Sr., two horse camps, and a filmmaking and screenwriting camp. There will be an option to take these camps as regular campers instead of as CITs. CITs will be given a 50% discount for these camps.
Counselors-in-Training are required to join us for the first week of camp for training. This is July 8-12. This is mandatory. No exceptions. For the following weeks of camp, CITs may join us every week or for weeks of their choosing. They may also join us for partial weeks. This is a program designed to allow families flexibility in their summer schedule. Extended care is also available for CITS from 7:45-6pm at no additional charge, however, they will be expected to help with camp preparations for the next day and to help with junior campers also in extended day (like pushing them on the tire swing!).
Finally, not all CITs will be asked to join our paid staff once they are 16. We do not have the staffing needs for this. However, a few CITs who excel and show great leadership, responsibility and respect for staff will be asked to join our paid team in the future. We will also offer letters of recommendation for CITs who wish to use their experience at The Maker Farm to apply for jobs elsewhere or for college applications. This is a great opportunity to build skills they will use for a lifetime.
