Harvesting History: Little House in the Big Woods & Farmer Boy

Ages: 5-10
August 17-21
8:30 am – 3:30 pm (extended hours available)
Makers: Kat Rokita and Farm Staff

We all know that we can take a quick trip to the grocery store to stock up on our food. But, in the past, families spent all summer, and especially late summer, harvesting and preserving food for a long winter to come. This week, we will spend a lot of time harvesting our crops and learning how to preserve them. We will also explore the farm childhoods of Almanzo Wilder and his future wife, Laura Ingalls in the two American classics Farmer Boy and Little House in the Big Woods. This is the perfect camp for your history-loving child. Kids will also set-up and run the Thursday night farmstand from 2-6 pm in old-fashioned dress. We end the camp with a Friday-night harvest festival at 7 pm complete with a hayride and pie-eating contest!
